How to Hunt Elk in Montana for 2010
If you are interested in elk hunting in Montana, there are several things that you need to ask yourself. Do you want to do it on your own? Do you want to hunt in an unknown area? Do you want to go blind into grizzly bear country? Do you want to do it yourself and have a 12% success rate or an 89% success rate with an outfitter?
Willow Ranch Outfitters, is here to assist you. We have been in the elk hunting outfitting business for over 35 years.
Our success rate is an impressive 60% for archery season with everyone coming to full draw multiple times during a week. Our rifle hunts are around 80% success. We hunt in an area where your elk hunting permit will allow you to shoot either a bull or a cow.
We offer a very exciting archery hunt where it is not uncommon to engage 6-8 large bulls a day. Even more common to have multiple bulls coming at you at once, and on some occasions have as many as three to four bulls coming at you at once -- we have video footage of this. This season, on two separate occasions, we had three bulls coming at us at once in a calling sequence.
You will be able to see this footage, this coming Spring on the Outdoor Channel, where we had the opportunity to hunt with Western Extreme (an Outdoor Channel favorite) and The Force, a new hunting show on outdoor television. The host of these shows, a professional hunter who hunts hundreds of days a year, said that his elk hunt in Montana with Willow Ranch Outfitters was "in the top 5 best days he has had hunting elk."
It's not just our exceptional elk hunting opportunities, but our staff and accommodations. Our wall tents are as comfortable as your own living room. We have a fantastic menu prepared by our in-house camp chef, each wall tent is outfitted with wood burning stoves and nice comfortable extra large cots. We do our best to make your experience the best you will have anywhere.
Our location offers access to one of the few migratory elk herds in Montana. We have an exceptionally large herd of resident elk that come through our camp as well. These elk average in the 270 to 380 class bulls.
Our rifle hunts go very fast - first week of the general elk hunting season has already been booked. We do have one week of general rifle season still available. As a business, we could hunt many more weeks but it is our belief that if the elk are not there is good numbers we should not be there either. We want to see you get into the elk. If we can't deliver, we won't be there.
You can get a Montana guaranteed tag or and outfitter sponsored tag from a Montana elk hunting outfitter. You can not get one from someone who is not an outfitter or a land owner. You can find a list of the Outfitters at Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, Montana Board of Outfitters, and Montana Outfitters and Guides Association (MOGA) www.montanaoutfitters.org |
