elk tips shooting

When shooting at an Elk, Mountain Goat, Moose, Bear, Lion, whatever...

You must have a steady, shooting rest.  You all know this if not, you should not be out there.

We all know the major one, prone, kneeling, laying down, and shooting sticks blaa blaa blaa.

I am going to talk about resting your gun on a tree to improve your Elk Hunting In Montana skills.

With your rifle resting on a tree, and you have a partner with you.  Have your off hand hold the forearm of the rifle tight to the tree.   Create a wedge with your thumb and fingers that the rifle forearm will rest in.

Your partner will lock his fingers together and put them over the shooters head and bring them to rest on the shooters shoulder, opposite of the rifle stock.    He and she will then transfer their weight on to the shooter.  What this does is removes any movement the standing or kneeling shooter might have.  The weight of both of you drastically increases your stability when shooting.
