April Fishing Conditions on the Yellowstone

Well, the Yellowstone is starting off quite nicely.  We have been floating the river lately and have been seeing some aggressive fishing.  This week we were looking for the big fish.  We had lots of action throwing a type IV sink tip and a rather large olive and yellow bugger - called the Zoo Cougar.

We had lots of follows and hits and landed a few fish which was quite different from a report several days ago when the fish wouldn't stay off the fly.

We have been wading and getting out at riffle corners and that has been providing us with good success.  The flies that have been working have been small streamers, bow river buggers, trailed by a BWO emerger or nymph.

The sun is getting more intense warming our water temps and  increasing our bug activity.  We will hopefully be seeing ideal conditions for the Mothers Day caddis and March brown hatches to come.
