Montana Fly Fishing Report - late April

Bugs are coming off in droves now on the Yellowstone.  Not because they want to but because they have to . BWO, March Browns, midges and soon caddis.  They will all hit the spot when they will need to pop.

Because spring is a little late this year, we are seeing hatches last a little longer than usual than the last several years.  The weather the last five days has been a fisherman's paradise.  Rain and snow, mostly snow, has generated our bug hatches on the Yellowstone River to awesome proportions, and they have been lasting for quite a while.

I guided the last three days on the Yellowstone River and the bugs came off from noon all the way up to 5:00.  It was amazing, and the fishing has gotten better and better every day.  From getting fifteen to thirty fish, to thirty to forty, to fifty to sixty yesterday.  The fish are keyed in.

Now for those of you who can get away our big hatch is still yet to come.  The Mothers Day Caddis historically comes of from April 29 to May 4, this year will be a little later.

So if you can plan a trip to Montana on a moments notice, come this next week, that will be the time to be here.  Give us a call and we will give you a fishing trip in the spring to remember.
